After all, everybody has a right to vote and not vote, isn't it? If you don't vote does that simply mean you have lost the right to blame the government also? That's big debate! It is the right of a person not to vote, but that 'no vote' from the government is a welcome sign. If at all there is a 100% voting in India, I am sure in most places the 'no vote' wins the elections with greatest majority ever in the history of Indian elections! Oh that's not a good sign but! hmm what does that mean? Should the election commission go on conducting re-elections in those 'no vote' won areas? Don't you think they will enter a loop of conducting elections again and again? When does the government form? Lot of questions! It might not mean there are not any good leaders out there, but it definitely means people have lost the trust in the election candidates. So why not let people nominate their candidates as well, keeping a limit on number of candidates to be nominated? Also why do not we have an eligibility criteria for nominations itself, let alone participating/winning elections and forming government? I think all these are not happening because majority of people doesn't deserve the same. Election manifestos talk about clearing your loans, making people more lazy and selfish. When a person takes a loan from anywhere, doesn't he supposed to repay it with interest. Instead of clearing the loans, poor people should be given opportunities to work better and clear their loans all by themselves. It makes him a better individual. With difficulty to earn for a daily bread, no one can even have enthusiasm to think/dream about bigger things even in their wildest dreams. Who can we blame here now! If that person is not better, what morals can we expect him to teach his kids! And the same kids grow up to be same poor, selfish, lazy, ignorant, pitiable person who either votes for similar people or become one who will clear loans. Is this ever going to end? As the debate continues, till we all try to find solutions, time and tide - and also elections - wait for no man, so please grab some motivation, go and exercise your right, be it your 'vote' or your 'no vote'.
A recent experience of directing a drama with children opened up new perspectives to the mother and teacher in me. As I was pondering about the art of acting as someone in a story, it dawned upon me that children are born actors. Look around to see how natural it is for a young child to imitate others all the time, so well without any inhibition or filter. A child naturally lives in the other to understand what it means to be the other - it is profound learning, and hard work that they are doing. It is only later, through the years of growing up, we gain the ability to look at others as someone else from the self. Hence we grow the ability to empathise, that we can transform ourselves to feel what it means to be in others shoes and come back to the self - much like playing a role in a drama. As we grow, we invite many roles into our lives (father, mother, brother, son, aunt etc.) and juggle between acting in different roles. We act so well that we actually live in that role and
